Fishing report for the week ending 4/15/2012

Fishing and weather have been great, spring break is almost over and it has been great. I have been so busy its been over two weeks since my last report, no complaints. Snook, redfish, trout, mackerel, flounder, shark, jacks, bluefish and yes my dinner favorite mangrove snapper are all out there to catch. As soon as the winds lie down for a few days tarpon will be everywhere.Above is Marybeth with her first snook, way to get started! she caught this one free linning a shinner in the river.Marybeth added this nice trout too, also on a shinner.Ed Jackobowski’s grandfather 93 yrs. young with a nice redfish.This family got in on some of the good redfish action.More good redfish!The girls dominated the fishing this week, Ive got a tough job.Mackerel too! Tarpon are here and we will be fishing for them on any of the days the wind allows. Many of my snook and redfish trips will get turned into tarpon taking advantage of the early season. Fishing report for the week ending 3/25/2012

Redfish and trout are still dominating the scene but like most springs you will always get your share of surprises. Above Link Robinson and his kids with a bonnethead shark, sharks are showing up everywhere with warmer water temperatures.Get the kids in the act to, theres plenty of action to keep the kids busy.Brian Peck and his friends on Spring break had a great time with some nice trout.Big trout have been common our trout fishery is going strong, when you get these going the action is nonstop. Free lining shinner’s or under a popping cork is working best.Lots of good eating and happy faces, take your kids fishing they will love it. With the redfish and trout there have been sharks, pompano, jacks and ladyfish.

Spring Is In Full Swing

Fishing report for the week ending 3/18/2012The past couple of weeks has been just what the doctor ordered, warming air and water temperatures are making everything work. Above Christine and Amy with a nice redfish caught on a live shrimp under a popping cork.Amy pictured above with a nice redfish of her own. Tides early in the week made things challenging but fishing remained good.Mackerel are a sure sign of spring, Ken Liss and his wife get in on the action.Nice size trout have remained steady making for some good eating.Another San Carlos Bay redfish also caught on live shrimp.Snook, pompano and small sharks are making for some great action.Get the frying pan ready! With no cold fronts in sight we will rush into tarpon season this year I expect to turn quite a few April snook and redfish trips into tarpon. Dont forget to get your reservations now!

March Comes In With A Bang

Fishing report for the week ending 3/4/2012Our warm weather will give way to more seasonal temperatures this week and a few windier days to start the week. Above trout have again dominated, with good numbers of 3-4 lbers. and lots of sub-slot fish making for plenty of action.Above Mike Bronan and his wife with a nice trout, with shortage of snook these bigger trout are showing up where the snook used to be. I am still using shrimp under a popping cork but if you like artificials soft plastics and pompano jigs work great. White is my color of choice.Pompano, mackerel, ladyfish and a few bluefish are also beginning to show up in better numbers.With water temperatures topping out at 75% this week small sharks and a few tarpon are showing up. Most of the tarpon are resident fish leaving the river but there will be others coming in with the increase of bait.

Dont forget to get your tarpon reservations done now, all indicators are for a early season.

Great Fishing And Weather

Fishing report for the week ending 2/26/2012

After a steady week, we ended with a front and warm south and west winds that made for the best fishing so far this spring. Above Greg Garfinkle with a nice redfish.As you can see from his smile Greg and his mom had a great day, he got his west coast slam and then some. Nice trout!Greg with one of several snook, water temperatures this week will get more of these guys active, everything we caught was on live shrimp. Greg didn”t stop there how about a fat sheepshead!This was not a prize size fish but one of interest, how about a Lane snapper in the bay. When I lived in Miami we would catch 4&5 lbers. on plugs south of Biscayne Bay. I have never seen one inshore here but hope to see more a beautiful fish.Here”s George Malloy with his first pompano, bring your kids fishing they will love it!John Scarrott from England enjoying some great trout fishing.We have caught some monster trout this week, I will let the pictures speak for themselves.Little man, big trout! Spring Like Conditions Make For Great Fishing

Warm water and air temperatures are making for some great fishing as seen above, a nice redfish caught on live shrimp.This pompano tipped the scale just under 6 lbs. state record is 8.3 also caught on a live shrimp.Mike Grieb and his friend with a redfish/trout double, trout have been excellent with the majority of the fish being in the slot or bigger.If this warm weather continues we will see a increase in snook, mackerel and bluefish making for great action. I had my first tarpon hit a shrimp while trout fishing, they will be just around the corner. Get your tarpon reservations now!

Warmer Than Normal Winter

Fishing report for the week ending 1/27/2012

Trout fishing has remained excellent, Ruth Schroeder above with one of many slot trout the she and her family caught on thursday. Live shrimp under a popping cork has worked best, but there were several times this week that a bait on the surface did not work best. Warm air and cool water can make the fish less active, when this happens try offering something on the bottom.Luke Schroeder also got in on the action, lots of big ladyfish and a scattered bluefish are making for great nonstop fishing. All indications say that spring will come early this year meaning a early tarpon season, we are taking reservations now. Get yours while they last don”t wait!

Fort Myers – Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 1/9/2012

Coming from pre-christmas mid 80 degree air and water temps up to 75 to last weeks low 30 degree air and water falling into the 50″s we have seen it all. Don”t tell Rob Wackerman you can”t catch quality fish on a cold day. Above Rob holds a personal best 12 lb. snook caught on a redfish magic.

Rob added this 11 lb. snook above and another 7 lber. below when everything else was hard to come by. Way to go .

In the following days almost everything beside sheepshead were hard to come by. A good note to put in the log book after the fronts find the deep holes and fish lower and slower.

The good news is we have been warming up each day and our next front on wednesday looks to be weaker. We should see fish starting to settle into more of a winter pattern in the next week or two.

Warmer Than Normal December Makes For Great Top-water Action

Top-water plug action has been excellent, this fatty was just under 14 lbs. (it swallowed that skitterwalk) A warmer than normal December is making for some great fishing around Sanibel and San Carlos Bay despite the windy conditions.To go along with some good redfish catches have been some monster trout like the one above. With top-water plugs 4-5 lb. fish have been normal.Good numbers of 20-24 inch redfish are on the flats on low incomming tides.On the higher tides there has been a whole new crop of rat reds (16-17 inch) anywhere you can find oysterbeds. A live shrimp under a popping cork works best.Want to be a hit for Christmas give that special person a fishing charter.

Fishing Remains Good With Cooler Weather

Fishing remained good with the arrival of cooler weather. There are fewer light wind days as winter comes on but on the day or two before fronts come in top water plugs can be very effective.
 Above a snook on a skitterwalk.
Winter trout on top water, there have been some big ones like this.Redfish on top water plugs one of my favorites.
George Samenuck with a redfish, he has been a regular lately.
There have been some nice trout mixed in with the redfish.
